Las VegasLas Vegas, often called simply "Vegas", but also known as "The Entertainment Capital of the World", is a city in the state of Nevada, in the western region of the United States. Las Vegas was first established in 1905, and incorporated in 1911, and is today the most populous US city founded in the 20th century. As of 2006, the city had an estimated population of 552,539, with nearly 1.8 million people living in the Las Vegas metropolitan area.

Many of the resorts and entertainment venues are situation on or near the Las Vegas Strip, a 4½ (7.2 kilometer) stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard with many attractions, numerous distinctive landmarks and buildings, and, at night, lots of neon lights. Only part of the Strip technically lies within Las Vegas' city limits, other parts fall within the unincorporated Township of Paradise.
